Sony Ericsson was formed in 2001 by Swedish telecommunications
giant, Ericsson and Japanese consumer electronic mammoth, Sony. Both Ericcson
and Sony have equal shares in the company. The President of Sony Ericsson
is currently Miles Flint who has a history with Sony Europe and Jan Wäreby
is the vice-president who has been with Ericsson before.
The company has its global management in London, its R&D in Sweden,
Japan, China, US and UK, and approximately 3,500 employees around the
world.
Beginning of 2005, Sony Ericsson and the WTA Tennis Tour announced a
£48 million pound deal to sponsor the Tennis Tour this year. Throughout
the whole tennis season, Sony Ericsson will have a on court presence and
will be using the technology they produce to some affect during the season.
Sony Ericsson is currently the 5th leading mobile phone handset developer
in the world but according to Sony Ericsson sources, in April 2004 the
company made a profit and they have started to eat into the mobile phone
handset shares taking more of a share in the market and apparently long
term leading company, Nokia shares have been cut back slightly (just over
30%).
The Sony Ericsson handset is very advanced. Some handsets use a symbian
operating system but arguably the original Sony Ericsson operating system,
Symbian used top develop theres as Ericsson does have shares in Symbian.
The displays and phone cases are very appealing to the eye and have all
the latest 3G functions installed on them.
